The Touch Screen Revolution

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Technology is constantly changing to bring something new and more sophisticated to consumers. Touch screen devices are the trend among people from all ages, taking technology to a completely different level – we now live a touch away from information.

Touch screen technology has existed for over 30 years, when Dr. Sam Hurst funded Elographics, Inc. (now Elo Touchsystems) to produce Graphical Data Digitizers for use in research and industrial applications. Nowadays, touch screen technology is commonly used in the social environment with iPods, iPhones, cell phones, desktops, laptops, kiosks, ATMs and so on. This innovative technology recognizes a person’s touch because of a touch screen sensor, a clear panel with a touch responsive surface. The touch sensor/panel is placed over a display screen which allows the device to respond to a finger’s touch.

Touch screen devices have become more popular because of their versatility and extreme flexibility, letting the user access to information more easily. Today, the touch screen is used to improve the interaction between humans and computers, and is yet a mystery what the future will bring next.
